Sir Alexander Frei.

Sir Alex

If any teams are going to make it past the group stage, they better rely on their forwards finishing. Switzerland has a forward that knows how to find the goal.

In 2003-2004 Frei scored 19 goals in 28 games making him Ligue 1’s second best scorer, right behind Djibril Cisse (Auxerre). In 2004-2005 Frei got 20 goals in 36 games (dropping just a slight bit) but he did lead Ligue 1 in scoring that season.

This season has proven to be a little rougher, already in 21 games and Frei has only scored 5 times with internet chat rooms rumoring that he is going to get transferred to Germany. With only a few days left I dont really seeing this happening, and a little gutless of a club to get rid of a player for having a bad start (he did manage to get 2 goals in 6 UEFA Cup games). Rennes(ranked 12th) is only two wins away from being in 4th place, which just goes to show how tight the French league is.

Frei is known for getting goals in that bounce off the post or the opposing team falls to clear, not really someone that shoots outside the box, which could be his biggest weakness. But if Switzerland where to get actually anywhere in this tournament I could easily see Frei winning the golden boot if only for all the opportunities that his teammates create for him.
