Well said, Adrian.

It really wasn’t such a long time ago when Switzerland were suffering to reach their potential and were just about biting through the qualifiers (but not always until the end) thanks, in great part, to Hakan Yakin.

To dust him off now that Switzerland has reached its peak is simply cheap. On top of that, it’s dumb. If there really were better options, then I would have understood, but I really don’t think that the likes of Gygax or Streller can even look Hakan in the face without blushing.

I don’t know about that, laoke. Yakin is a player who needs proof of trust and confidence in him. He’s not one of those who ‘fire up’ on the bench. And one thing in the discussion that is left out is: Gygax by no means has more match experience this year, nor a better form than Yakin. The quotation is easy: do I want a mediocre, internationally little experienced, and this season little playing Gygax or do I want a Yakin who has proofen his genious, has a big international experience and had as few games this year. I think the question is pretty clear.

Hopefully Yakin will play tonight against Italy and influence the game. Then the discussion will be over.

Guys and girls don’t forget it was just a friendly game. What do you do if you have the chance to play in the worldcup? Of course everybody try not to get injured. Vogel had a bad game, ok; but that doesn’t mean you have to cry out for Yakin. Important is to give the starters confidence and even if they play bad hold on to them. Now it’s too late to make big changes. Yakin played to good games and now everybody see’s the solution in him. Keep him on the bench Köbi, make him angry and don’t let him play until he is ripe to explode.
That means wait unitl the 1/4 finals.

I think overall Switzerland should be happy with their result. While the Ivorians showed some good individual talent and domination, the Swiss had a more organised and structured type of approach.

However, many of the players appeared to lack motivation. Behrami and Bernetta were the only ones who actually seemed to be accelerating, and both are to be praised for their performances.

I think Yakin will bring something to the team. After all, he has the confidence (overconfidence?) that other Swiss attacking players seem to lack. Switzerland has the organisation, but now they need someone creative who is prepared to be daring and to test the defence and the goalkeeper.

Also, Switzerland definitely need someone better than Magnin for dead-ball situations. Yakin should be just fine.
