THANK YOU KUHN! Switzerland - Portugal 2-0

June 15th, 2008 | By: Jan | 14 Comments »

A lengthier post will appear here tomorrow, but for now let me thank the two individuals below for restoring Switzerland’s honour and making this tournament a less bitter

Switzerland defeats Portugal, courtesy of Hakan Yakin who scored two goals, and provided a memorable last game for Kuhn.

Switzerland WorldCupBlog wishes our coach all the best and hopes he will always be close to the Nati.

Portugal were absolutely rubbish, Switzerland worked hard and deserved their victory. Good job, and I’m glad they managed to get three points considering their (unlucky) results in the first two matches.

The Swiss truly have a young and talented side that will only go from strength to strength as time goes on. Better luck next time.

To think that Hakan Yakin sat on the bench at Galatasaray…

Ooooooooooooooothmar Hitzfeld.
7 years of misery are over. Hopefully Hitzfeld can now unleash the true potential of the team: not just mediocre standers-by who wait for a mistake by the opposition, but team that has the tactical ability to attack.
Thanks Portugal for letting us win this last game. ;) Oh, and thanks UEFA for the crap modus at Euro that enables teams to play the B-Squad in the third game. (I mean the ‘direct match’ rule, as opposed to goal difference.) I’m sure the French and the Italians are going to complain about that as well, when Van Basten presents his B-squad against Romania.

Great performance and great attitude from Swiss team. I was devastated after those two games which were lead by referees. This team deserved victory from each game, sadly referees thought different. Thank you from entertaining football and great atmosphere in the Eurocup.

What? Referees? Portugal scored once (unfairly discounted) + penaltie that the referee ignored + 2 balls to the iron.

Even using the 2nd team (no Cristiano Ronaldo, no Deco, no Nuno Gomes, etc…) Portugal should have won. Portugal just let them win…

>>>Thanks Portugal for letting us win this last game.

You’re more than welcome.
We knew it meant a lot to you, now can we please win this Euro2008 ? ;)
(if no, please make the ref. be on our side for once…)
This leadership board is being embarrassing..

Thanks to everyone who commented!
The Hitzfeld era officially opens today. Let’s hope it will be even better than Kuhn!
Congratulations on the Portuguese and the Turks for qualifying, good luck for the rest of the tournament.

lol from Portugal I am supriced that you take defending side :) I was not talking about the game against portugal, this one they(swiss team) won. And I think the whole world saw that you guys had different group on field agains switzerland but still, I would not say you are very strong in football if you loose 2-0 right after those guys, you mentioned, are off.
Switzerland was suffering from very poor referee actions in first two games and lost its very best striker after first 45 minutes in the cup.

Jarmo, that’s also true, I’m not saying the swiss team is bad, they weren’t lucky. However, the referee wasn’t fair for us on this match. How can you say we arent strong? We only had 3 players from the 1st team playing.

We’ll see what happens next ;)
