Poll: Why is Switzerland out of Euro 2008?

June 16th, 2008 | By: Jan | 5 Comments »

The poll you found below appears on 20min.ch, the website of Switzerland’s biggest free newspaper (in german, french and italian).

At the end of the poll, I will publish the results that appeared on the original website.

Some statistics:
3 goals (all by Hakan Yakin, including one penalty)
45 total shots (first in the standings, followed by Portugal with 43), with 23 on goal, 1 less than Portugal.
66 fouls committed, 70 suffered.
8 yellow cards, second only to Turkey with 10.
17 corners, first together with Italy.
8 offsides, in 4th place.
8 saves, way behind the Czechs with 19.
49% average ball possession.

Which is the main reason for Switzerland’s early exit?

I’ll blame it on losing Frei and poor refereeing in the first match (missing that blatant penalty)

I think losing Frei was huge. Switzerland looked a lot more threatening in the first half of that first game before Frei got injured.

Current statistics see misfortune and loss of Alex Frei as the main reasons
