Kuhn Interview & Streller and Behrami injured?
Frei’s dreadful injury will not require surgery. He will have to stay put for 6 weeks and get ready for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers. Like a true captain, however, he chooses to stay with the team in Feusisberg.
“Alex is a leader. He has decided to stay at Feusisberg to be close to the team. Borussia Dortmund has agreed to this. In any case I would have insisted on him to stay” says Kobi Kuhn.
As if N’Kufo, Margairaz, Frei and Dzemaili out weren’t enough, Streller suffers from a groin injury and Behrami suffers from hip spasms. Despite these not being serious injuries their presence on the pitch against Turkey isn’t certain yet (we can spare the former but not the latter!)
Interview with Kuhn
Kuhn believes in his team: “We have to win our first final against Turkey”.
“We don’t have to look behind. It doesn’t help. The game against Turkey is all that matters. We look upon this game with confidence despite Frei’s absence. Our game on Saturday was very good”
Concerning the Czech goal Kuhn admit, “perhaps we shouldn’t have played the offside trap. But despite this we should have won the game. The referee should have given us two penalties”.
Concerning the fact that there are only two real strikers left, Derdiyok and Streller he says: “I believe people shouldn’t criticise the latter, he will play on Wednesday. And Derdiyok has a promising future”.
“The atmosphere wasn’t mournful this morning. The players should be proud of their performance. Unfortunately the result wasn’t a positive one. But I want to tell everyone: the players aren’t shattered emotionally. They will be ready on Wednesday”.
Muller’s interview:
“Despite the defeat and the loss of our captain we have a right to believe in ourselves. We can qualify for the quarter-finals”.
“We dominated the Czechs. But luck wasn’t with us. They had two chances to score and obtain the three points. In the game of football it’s not always the best team that wins”.
Patrick Muller was evidently satisfied with his performance (as all of us): “I had no problems. I didn’t think about my knee. I don’t know if we have to talk about a miracle. Such an operation as I had puts you on the sidelines for 6 months. I was certainly inspired by the example of my fellow player Cris in Lyon. He also had a similar operation and got back to high standards at the end of the season.”
Before studying Turkey’s gameplay, Muller, a Federer fan, intended to support his fellow countryman in today’s Roland Garros Final. Unfortunately, to add to Swiss affliction, Federer was dominated by Spaniard Rafael Nadal 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 in the final of the only tournament the Swiss World Number 1 has never won.
