Mueller, who played in every qualifying match for Switzerland, should bring much needed defensive help to a Lyon side whose backline has been hit hard by injuries.

Just as important, the move should give the official Patrick Mueller website something to celebrate.

Swiss midfielder Reto Ziegler sees his transfer from Tottenham to Wigan Athletic as a chance to audition for a bigger role: a spot on Switzerland’s World Cup squad this summer.

“For a young player like me in a World Cup year, I am just anxious to play and to show everyone, the Wigan fans, the Wigan manager and the Switzerland manager Kobi Kuhn, what I can do,” Ziegler said in this article.

Ziegler’s stay in welcome might be made easier by having fellow Swiss Stephane Henchoz as a teammate.

One of the coolest things about being in a World Cup year is seeing players hungry for an opportunity to play. Guys like Ziegler are eager to go just about anywhere to show their home nation’s manager that they have the skills in takes to play in Germany this summer.

Swiss international midfielder Reto Ziegler has been loaned to Wigan from Tottenham for the remainder of the season. The 20-year-old left footer had been on loan to Hamburg before returning to Tottenham in January, but had only played in 8 matches for the German team

Ziegler, who has three caps for Switzerland, hopes that the move will give him more of an opportunity to play so that he can secure a spot on the national team’s roster this summer in Germany.

This is a good move for Ziegler. He certainly does not lack for talent, but he does need to get more game experience under his belt.
